Enjoy with your furry friend in Eastern Almería
In 2024, we welcomed a new dog-friendly beach along the coast of Cuevas del Almanzora in Almería. We’ve visited this spot to share what you can look forward to.
Cala La Invencible, in Cuevas del Almanzora
La Invencible is a serene, relaxed beach frequented by families, located less than 2 kilometers from the coastal town of Villaricos. Nestled along a rugged stretch of coast adorned with dark rocky cliffs and rich marine environments, it offers a unique seaside escape. Access is via one of the most picturesque stretches of the coastal road linking Vera to San Juan de Los Terreros (AL-7107), which is a scenic, winding route with breathtaking views of the Mediterranean sea.
Several viewpoints along the road offer perfect spots to pause, soak in the vistas, and snap photos. Beach access points are clearly marked by roadside signs, and path colors help guide your way: yellow paths lead to viewpoints and red paths to beaches. You can drive down a dirt road to reach the beach’s parking area.
While La Invencible stretches over 400 meters, the designated area for dogs is confined to a section near the parking area marked by two flags. Nonetheless, dogs on leashes are permitted throughout the rest of the beach under adult supervision.
The shoreline features dark, coarse sand mixed with gravel. We suggest wearing water shoes or similar protective footwear to navigate in and out of the water easily, especially as the stone and rock presence can vary by area and season. The water is exceptionally clear, making it ideal for snorkeling enthusiasts to explore the submerged rocks.
Please note, the beach lacks facilities, so bring all essentials to ensure a pleasant visit with your pet. It’s particularly important to carry fresh water due to the area’s warm climate.
Always adhere to beach rules: clean up after your pets, dispose of waste properly, keep animals under control to avoid disturbing others, and ensure your dogs are microchipped, vaccinated, and dewormed. Large or potentially dangerous breeds should remain on leashes. You’ll find an information panel near the beach entrance outlining all these regulations.
The beach has received positive feedback, being the first in this region of Almería to welcome dogs during the swim season—a much-appreciated feature given the typical heat.
If you bring your pets here, we’d love to hear about your experience!

Just one more note: although we’ ha’d heard about a new dog-friendly beach on the Pulpí coast and attempted to visit, we were unable to locate it. There were no signs indicating a dog-friendly area, and existing signs explicitly prohibited dogs, so we have no updates to provide.
However, if you’re interested in exploring another dog-friendly beach, try Cala Mijo in the Águilas municipality of Murcia. You can find a brief video of it in our image gallery or on our YouTube channel.
