Just a step away from the Portuguese capital, and each with its own character and charm, you will find these…
3 exceptional beaches to discover the coast from Lisbon:
1. Praia de Carcavelos, in Cascais
Carcavelos is a golden sand beach, with large areas for sports activities, such as football and beach volleyball, and sunbathing areas. It is one of the most well-known and accessible beaches from Lisbon. Famous for its excellent conditions for surfing, it has several surf schools that offer classes for different levels. Next to the beach, there are bars and restaurants, making it perfect for a hassle-free day trip.
Access to the beach from Lisbon is very convenient. By car, the journey takes just over half an hour, and there are several parking areas. If you prefer public transport, the Lisbon-Cascais train line stops in Carcavelos, about 10 minutes walk from the beach, and it is also possible to get there by bus.

A bit further from Lisbon is Praia do Guincho, a paradise for nature lovers and for those fond of surfing and windsurfing. The landscape surrounding the beach is impressive, with white sand dunes and views of the Sintra mountains. The beach is close to the city of Cascais, which you can also visit to take a walk through its old town.
The beach is part of the Sintra-Cascais Natural Park. Despite its wilder and natural appearance, it has a restaurant and a bar where you can eat with views of the Atlantic Ocean, as well as a surf school and a surf shop.
Access to the beach by car from Lisbon is convenient, and there are two parking lots next to it. It’s also possible to get there by bus from Cascais, although it’s advisable to check the bus schedules, as the service varies depending on the season.

3. Praia do Tamariz, in Estoril
Located in Estoril, next to the Casino gardens, Praia do Tamariz is very popular due to its proximity to Lisbon and easy access from the capital. It’s a small, sandy beach with a family-friendly atmosphere, situated next to a castle, the Forte da Cruz, which adds a special and distinctive touch.
To the east of the beach is the Piscina Oceânica do Tamariz, a saltwater pool that fills with sea water when the tide is high, ideal for those who do not want to swim in the open sea or prefer slightly less cold water.
Being such a central beach, it is surrounded by bars, restaurants, and cafes to satisfy the most varied tastes. Even at night, it has a lively atmosphere, with music and different entertainment options.
Access, as we said, is simple. It’s just half an hour from Lisbon by car, but it’s also next to the Estoril train stop and a bus stop, making it ideal for a comfortable day trip.
